Tuckers Hill 1913 Men working: Art Barse, Albert Young, Oscar Krouse The Yellowstone Park Trail project was highly anticipated in our region. John Hawkins (postmaster at the time in Waubay and brother to my grandfather) had met with the Governor at the time and purposed that from Waubay the Yellowstone Trail would connect to the Glacial Trail. It would have gone on the east side of Blue Dog Lake on up to the west side of Enemy Swim Lake up to the west side of Pickerel Lake on up to Buffalo Lake and then connect to the Glacial Trail. They thought it would be a boom to the Waubay area. The lakes would have hotels, cafe's, camp grounds, tourist attractions, gas stations, and pow wow's with the stories and history of the American Indians being told. Waubay SD State Bank Conrad Mogen, A.D. Porter Wanted to identify my dad, Conrad Mogen is the person on the left in the second window. This is an early picture of the State Bank of Waubay. Dad started working there full time when he graduated from Waubay High School in 1911. It was the first 4 year graduating class. As a kid, I remember the protection "wall" and windows for the customer service. I believe it was removed sometime in the '50's. I don't remember the "Horns" over the firt window! The lower part remained until the new addition was built in the 60's. My father was the President of the bank when he passed away in 1962, some 50+ years serving the community. Does not happen much these days. Contributed by Conrad (Joe) Mogen
